life coach

You have heard and seen the term, life coach, but what exactly is a life coach? A life coach is a person who works with people who want to improve their life, achieve specific goals, and thrive in their life, relationships, or careers. Some life coaches work in specialized areas such as weight loss, relationships, finance, mindset, and more. It is important to understand that life coaches are not therapists, counselors, or mental health clinicians. Instead, life coaches focus on transporting a person from where they are to where they would like to go. Life coaches focus on the present and do not heal, diagnose, or cure any illnesses, or challenges in a person’s life.

Life coaches do not require degrees or formal education; however, it is advisable to research a life coach that you are interested in working with, to ensure that they are knowledgeable, professional, and a good fit for you and your investment. With all being said, life coaches are amazing professionals who help people thrive in their life and care about helping others reach their goals. Here are five benefits of working with a life coach:

1. Accountability

When you are trying to reach a goal, it is already challenging and intensive work to make it to your destination. Sometimes, it can be discouraging, and you can become demotivated. However, when you work with a life coach, they will be an excellent accountability partner because they will ensure that you are staying on top of your goals, checking off tasks, and pushing you forward to your to-do list. You will have greater likelihood of achieving your goals and being successful when you work with a coach, who holds you accountable. This is not to say that you cannot achieve your goals solo, but a great life coach will hold you accountable and you will be more likely to achieve whatever your heart desires.

2. Increased Confidence

Let’s face it, pursuing your dreams can be scary and it is easy to get caught up in feeling like you are not qualified enough to reach your goals or unworthy of such a goal. The truth is, some people don’t even attempt to pursue their passions or walk in their calling out of fear of failing, or fear of what other people think. However, when you work with a life coach, you will engage in activities and homework that will help you increase your confidence as well as help you feel more motivated to keep going and reach your finish line.

3. Strategic Plan

We all have goals to achieve, but one thing that holds us back is lack of a plan to help us get there. Clients often are excited when they think about where they see themselves and what they would love to do, I often call them visionaries, who want to achieve these big dreams, but they don’t know how to get there. They are often stuck at step one and need help with mapping out the how, why, where, when. When you work with a life coach, you will work together to create a strategic plan that will serve as a roadmap to get you where you are trying to go and include methods and techniques to help you overcome obstacles, detours, or roadblocks that will hinder your progress. It is important to know where you are going, before you can take steps. It’s like a GPS system, you have to input the final destination address, and then the system calculates directions, which include faster routes, traffic jams, and images to help you realize the final destination. When working with a life coach, you will also develop plans, strategies, and tactics to help you get to your destination. It’s an exciting step in your journey towards success!

4. Improved Thinking.

Our minds are powerful and produce thousands of thoughts daily. Many of our thoughts are negative and unproductive. It’s true. So, when you work with a life coach, you can learn ways to become more self-aware of your thoughts and how to overcome limiting beliefs that hold you back from success. Thoughts such as, “I can’t do that. I don’t have the money. Nobody will hire me. Nobody wants to work with me. I am not good enough,” are just examples of limiting beliefs that many people think about, and sometimes are not even aware that these thoughts are present. When you work with a life coach, you will improve your thinking and break bad habits, increase positive thinking, and feel a lot better, which will aid you in working towards reaching your goals.

5. Clarity

There is nothing more frustrating than to feel lost, confused, or unclear about what you are supposed to be doing in life. When you are crystal clear about who you are, where you are going, and how to get there, that is a true recipe for success. Working with a life coach will increase clarity and help you feel confident about your next moves in life, how and when to take them. If you are alone or walking a path solo in life and feel like you are not sure what you are supposed to be doing, or have trouble making decisions about who you are, then a life coach will absolutely help you with gaining clarity with many aspects of your life.

The truth is that life coaches are needed, amazing, and helpful when navigating life decisions, transitions, milestones, and necessary changes. They are change agents, positive individuals who are equipped to help you achieve your goals and reclaim your life back. If you have been on the fence with whether you should work with one, this is your confirmation to do so. If you are tired of feeling lost, stuck, or wishing there was more to life and wondering how you will figure it out, we should talk.
