Minister Demetria Gilkey
Life is filled with unexpected detours and sometimes, they take us by surprise! I remember my Pastor used to say, you are either going through a storm, in a storm, or just exiting a storm. Personally, I have experienced my own battles, failures, setbacks, but I have also survived and grown from them. When I am speaking or preaching, I make it my mission to ensure that I am transparent with how God has shown up, delivered me, healed me, and protected me by sharing unforgettable stories to illustrate my points and touch the hearts of my listeners. As a minister, I study The Word, ensure that my messages and sermons are theologically sound, and that they also offer solutions and steps for audience members to implement in their lives.
When I am called to preach, I make it my mission to deliver a message that God has placed in my heart, that that congregation needs to hear. It has nothing to do with shining a light on Demetria, but solely on God. With that being said, it is an absolute honor to deliver messages of hope and encouragement to people. I truly love encouraging people and helping them along their life journeys, by sharing my truths, and reminding people, from all walks of life, to activate their faith, stay prayed up, and be the person that you were called to be!
As far as my faith journey, I accepted Jesus Christ into my heart at vacation Bible school on June 6, 1996, at State Street Baptist Church, in my hometown, Bowling Green, Kentucky. After that, I began working in the church, in various roles. Some include Sunday School teacher and Assistant Superintendent, for over 10 years, choir, usher, and more. Several years into my adulthood, I knew that God was calling me to preach, but like many people, I ran, hid, and did not want to accept or believe that I was good enough. Finally, I surrendered, accepted, enrolled into seminary school, and graduated with my Master’s degree in Theology (Biblical Studies), and became a licensed minister at Elim Baptist Church in Louisville, KY. Testimonials
It is very important that when I teach, preach, or speak in a church, that an individual experiences an amazing, inspiring message, that is theologically sound, approved by God, inspires change in their life, and will help reconnect them to Jesus Christ.
